WAY FORWARD

  • Admittedly, there is a LOT to learn in God’s Word that has been given to us over thousands of years and it can seem overwhelming at times.

God knows you cannot learn and follow His Word perfectly. You can, however, find security by accepting God’s offer of help for a way forward.

  • 1. Define your belief

Becoming a follower of Christ is incredibly simple. Once you:

    1. Believe Jesus Christ is God

    2. Who came to earth to die and ‘take on’ the punishment for your sin

    3. And later God raised Jesus from the dead — and Jesus now lives

then you are immediately accepted as one of His children and Christ will LIVE IN YOU, via the Holy Spirit, to help you along your journey in life.

Becoming a follower of Christ is as simple and beautiful as that!

And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Acts 2:21 NIV

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9 NIV

  • 2. Where are you going?

Thankfully, after you place your trust in God, your status in His family doesn’t depend on whether you completely understand and execute His Word perfectly.

But God does expect that you will turn from your sinful ways and AIM TO LIVE a life pleasing to Him according to His Word. In this way, you show you care for Him and desire to please Him — like you would want to please any loved-one in your life.

After you place your trust in God and receive His Spirit within you, you can move ahead in confidence as you follow His Word.

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. John 14:26 NIV

  • 3. Help along the way

Once you accept Christ and receive the Holy Spirit, you can depend on Him to help you interpret His Word.

Knowing the facts of the Bible — like gathering tidbits of info — may help with context, but won’t do any ultimate good. We need the Holy Spirit to help us fully understand what we’re reading and help us apply God’s Word to our lives!

It is hoped the notes contained in this Scriptural Journal can also help you understand and find God’s truth in Scripture.

Note: If you do not agree with comments in this Journal, please consider them a springboard for further study. Seek God through PRAYER and ASK THE HOLY SPIRIT to reveal what you are to learn from the passage — do not depend on what is written here or any other source!.

I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Psalm 16:8 NIV

Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Joshua 1:8 NIV

The reason we come away so cold from reading the Word, is because we do not warm ourselves at the fire of meditation. Without meditation, the truths which we know will never affect our hearts. As a hammer drives a nail to the head, so meditation drives a truth to the heart.

Read before you meditate. Reading furnishes with matter — it is the oil which feeds the lamp of meditation. Be sure your meditations are founded upon Scripture. Reading without meditation is barren and unfruitful; meditation without reading is dangerous.
